Superheroes suck!

Hi blog!

So its Monday and  the  6th week started.

I was not bad in the 5th week. I  figured out I don’t have to attend every first class. For example, we are just doing in class  exercises in accounting right now. And we had Hardware quiz in Information Systems on Friday. So I just studied hard the night before and decided to skip the accounting next day to have more sleep.

So yeah I think it’s okay. I won’t tell you my grades because you know there was this video on “LINKS Seminar for International Students” where a honored graduate student was talking about his college times. He arrived the night before the start of classes and in the morning he had to run after bus. And he was describing this as “he was so disoriented and so bad in time management and he clearly needed to adapt to new environment”.

And I was like “come on man you just arrived in Winnipeg and next morning you already know where the bus stop is, you  already know which bus you need, you already got bus ticked OR you already magically have 2$ and 55cents??? Are you a superman????”

I mean when you come to foreign country for studying, you might find yourself so much confused at the first time.  And you don’t need the stories of other people who were more adaptive because this just comes in mind every time you sit in the wrong bus or do something wrong. And you might think that you are dumb because someone else was better in this stuff but just screw this. You are not dumb and it’s totally okay to make mistakes!

The other example was another international student from immigration forum saying that studying in college is so easy, she does all her homework in the bus.

And you are just sitting (or standing) in the crowded bus with the huge backpack on your kneels and you got so much to study and you will waste this 20 minutes in the bus and you think about that student every time  who magically does all her homework in the road.

No man.You don’t need the stories like this. The last example is about couple like me and my husband: One works one studies. And they say “we earn so much that we don’t count how much we spend and eat whatever we want”. Either these people were earning much more than the minimum wage for their first unqualified job, or they were high level spiritual creatures who only eat 100g corn a day and it’s enough for them. My husband just got his first paycheck and so much money was deducted in taxes and other stuff, we were just shocked and  we realized we need even more budgeting.

And I don’t know why no one tells the stories like this. I mean everyone shares only  success. And its just bullshit for all new, non-superhero people who need to go through all the adaptation stages. These successful stories  just come in mind when you fail in something and think that there’s something wrong with you particularly.

So I want to have this blog to show future international students that it’s normal to make mistakes and to struggle and things like that.(Actually, I am lazy to post every stupid thing I do, but believe me they are impressive!)  Because you will still succeed if you try hard. I didn’t share how much I saved in books and I don’t share my grades because you might get different numbers and grades and I don’t want my blog  to discourage someone.

Everyone has its own path and priorities and strengths. We are not robots and  it’s more fun! Being stupid is fun (Diesel actually used  “Be stupid!” for their campaign in 2010) And who are not stupid? - Superheros! So superheros suck! \m/
